Synergia Adventuring: A Middle School Rite of Passage

For both Grade 6 and Grade 7, the recent trips to Synergia Learning Ventures in Nevada City, CA were more than outdoor adventures—they were opportunities for students to discover new strengths, deepen friendships, and engage with the world in meaningful ways.

Synergia is built on the belief that when students step outside of their daily routines and interact with the natural world in new ways, real transformation happens. Through projects, challenges, and guided mentorship, students develop resilience, collaboration, and a deeper sense of purpose.

Grade 7 students closed their “Age of Discovery” block with an experience that brought struggle, collaboration, and accomplishment in equal measure, helping them discover not only more about the natural world but also about themselves and one another.

Grade 6’s adventure was equally memorable, complete with real-life problem-solving (including an impromptu tire change led by one student!). Canoeing, rock climbing, and ropes courses pushed the class to work together, build courage, and celebrate each other’s achievements—whether on the water, on the ropes, or under a canopy of stars.

These trips remind us that education is not only about what happens inside the classroom. By connecting with nature, themselves, and one another, WSP students learn to carry confidence, cooperation, and curiosity into every part of their lives.
