Parent Connections: Ukrainian Egg-Dying Workshop

Connect, create, and celebrate with a hands-on Pisanki egg decorating workshop led by our parent community! This in-person event will take place on Friday, March 27, at 8:30 am at the Waldorf School of the Peninsula - Los Altos Campus.

We will assist you with all the basic steps to create one-of-a-kind beautiful egg to take home. All materials are provided and all skill levels are welcome.

Join us for the whole time or stay only 1 hour.

Please note that even though we are usually happy to have little hands joining, for this workshop we cannot accommodate children due to the numerous lit candles and open jars of dye required for the process.

In order to provide enough supplies and spaces for all participants, space is limited! There is a $10 fee to cover the costs of the supplies.

The Tradition of Pisanky
Pisanki or pysanky is a common name for an egg richly ornamented using beeswax and dye techniques. The word is derived from the Polish and Ukrainian words 'to write' or 'to paint'.

Originating as a pagan tradition, pisanky were absorbed by Christianity to become the traditional Easter Egg. They are now considered to symbolize the revival of life, nature, and health along with happiness, family, and prosperity! You will hear more about the symbols at our workshop.
